Why did Jesus say some people would call Him ‘Lord’ and still be rejected by Him?
In Matthew 7:21-23, Jesus warns: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven… I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!”
Here’s why some who call Him “Lord” are still rejected:
Words alone aren’t enough – Simply saying “Lord” or doing religious deeds doesn’t mean a person truly follows Jesus. Faith is more than speech; it’s a heart transformed by Him.
Being born again is essential – Jesus taught that entering God’s kingdom requires a spiritual rebirth (John 3:3). Without this transformation, a person’s heart remains distant from God, no matter how outwardly religious they appear.
Heart matters more than actions – People can perform impressive deeds—praying, giving, serving—but if their heart hasn’t been renewed, their actions don’t bring them into true relationship with Christ.
Obedience reflects genuine faith – Being born again leads to a life aligned with God’s will. True discipleship is shown in how we live, not just what we say.
In short: calling Jesus “Lord” isn’t enough. You must be born again, have a transformed heart, and live in obedience to Him. Only then can your words, actions, and faith reflect a real relationship with Jesus.
