What Does It Mean to Be Saved or Born Again?

How do I become Born Again?

To be saved / born again means to be rescued from sin and restored to a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches that all people have sinned and fall short of God’s perfect standard, and that sin separates us from Him. Salvation is God’s gift—offered by grace, not something we earn by good works.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again. When a person places their trust in Jesus—believing who He is and what He did—God forgives their sins and gives them new life.

To be born again (see below)means experiencing this spiritual rebirth. J esus said, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). This isn’t a physical birth or joining a religion—it’s an inner transformation brought about by the Holy Spirit. God gives you a new heart, new desires, and a new identity in Christ.

Being saved means:

  • Your sins are forgiven

  • You are made right with God

  • You receive eternal life

  • You begin a new life led by God’s Spirit

Salvation comes through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone:

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” — Ephesians 2:8 (KJV)

Being born again doesn’t mean you become perfect—but it does mean you belong to God, are no longer alone, and are being changed from the inside out.

HOW DO I GET SAVED?

How Can I Be Saved?

The Bible makes salvation clear and accessible to everyone. You do not need to earn it, clean yourself up first, or follow religious rituals. Salvation is received by faith.

1. Recognize your need for God
The Bible says all people have sinned and are separated from God (Romans 3:23). Acknowledging this is the first step.

2. Believe in Jesus Christ
Believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He died on the cross for your sins, and that He rose again. His sacrifice paid the price we could never pay ourselves (John 3:16).

3. Repent and turn to God
Repentance means a change of heart and direction—turning away from sin and turning toward God. It is not perfection, but a sincere desire to follow Him (Acts 3:19).

4. Place your trust in Jesus alone
Salvation is not found in good works, church membership, or being a “good person.” It comes through trusting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9–10).

5. Receive God’s gift of salvation
When you believe, God forgives your sins, gives you new life, and seals you with His Spirit. You become a child of God—saved and born again (John 1:12).

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” — Acts 16:31 (KJV)

If you sincerely believe these truths and place your faith in Jesus Christ, the Bible says you are saved—right now.
